I’m not Dead …. I’m Just Freelance Writing

I can’t remember the last time I wrote on this blog and to be honest I nearly forgot about it. Seriously what with managing my mobile technology blog, various social media presences and freelance writing for various different clients I barely have time for REM sleep these days.

Freelance Writing

Not something I ever imagined myself doing, writing for others is growing to be a new love of mine. Yes, it’s a little strange seeing my work sometimes published under someone else’s name but that’s what Ghost-writing is all about.

However, freelance writing is not all about writing just for the pay! In my reasonably short time doing it, I have got may name down as an author on a few different technology sites.

What Does the Future Hold?

To be quite frank, I don’t know! I decided to get into freelance writing as a way to move away from technology based writing and maybe challenge myself. However I would have been a fool not to have used my years of writing and guest posting as a tool to promote myself….

The problem (I’m not sure if it really is one)however, is that I now find myself writing about waste disposal units, electric razors, 3D projectors and yet again apps and mobile phones. And while I don’t mind doing that, I had hoped to widen my experience a little and add to my portfolio.

Lessons Learned

If you’re thinking about becoming a freelancer, here are a few pieces of advice I’d like to share with you:

  1. Whatever platform you choose to work from, make sure you have a complete profile with some pieces of previous work within your portfolio.
  2. Don’t be fooled by clients who promise big money and try and offer to pay you without any form of protection such as escrow. In my experience, these clients will run as soon as you deliver without you ever seeing a penny.
  3. Don’t be too picky over the jobs you apply for. The early stages of any freelance carer is about gaining trust and earning positive feedback.feedback-new1

If anyone would like to chip in and add to the above please do!

Final thoughts

So far 2016 has been the year of change for me. Late last year, I decided that after a year of hell working long hours for little reward it was time for a change. I wasn’t 100% sure as to what that change would be however, I knew in the back of my mind that freelance writing was an option, it just took me nearly six months to realise its potential.
